CAD STEM Squad - Together we rise…

The Ctrl+Alt+Del (CAD) STEM Squad is a dynamic group of kids, ages 7 to 13, who are using STEM skills to impact their community and beyond. The CAD STEM Squad is sectioned into teams, selected annually, and each sponsored and mentored by RoboLink gurus, for competing Robotics & Coding tournaments. Team opportunities include FIRST Robotics programs - competing in FIRST LEGO League (FLL) and FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC), Wonder League Robotics, and various coding challenges and competitions.

FIRST® LEGO® League is an awesome Robotics Program where teams of up to 10 kids build, program, and compete with a LEGO EV3 Mindstorms robot, while also learning about issues facing their communities, in science and engineering, and developing potential solutions. The entire competition for each year is based around a real-world problem that teams are challenged to investigate, teaching them invaluable STEM, Design, and Critical Thinking Skills. Throughout the competition, teams are judged on their adherence to the FIRST® LEGO® League core values, including teamwork, Coopertition®, and Gracious Professionalism®. This aspect of FIRST® LEGO® League is designed to develop the students of today into the responsible citizens of tomorrow.

Meanwhile, in FIRST Tech Challenge teams are challenged to design, build, program, and operate robots to compete in a head-to-head challenge in an alliance format. Guided by coaches and mentors, team members develop STEM skills and practice engineering principles, while realising the value of hard work, innovation, and working as a team.

In 2018, the inaugural Ctrl+Alt+Del FLL team had 8 team members, participating in the FIRST LEGO League ‘Into Orbit’ season. The team began the season as 1 of 840 FIRST LEGO League teams around Australia, making it from the Wollongong Regional tournament to the NSW State tournament, and then going on to the Australian National Championship where they competed against the 70 top teams from around the country. Ctrl+Alt+Del was selected to go on to represent Australia at the FIRST World Championship in the USA in April 2019, alongside 108 elite teams who advanced to this level from the 40,000 teams around the world.

supporting Community AND Diversity (the other kind of CAD!)

The CAD STEM Squad is all about inspiring and empowering the next generation to be the change they want to see the world, understanding that it is together we rise and make a difference. All members of the CAD STEM Squad are heavily involved in community projects - locally, nationally, and internationally, under the umbrella of CAD Robotics STEMspiration Inc (a not-for-profit organisation created by founding CAD STEM Squad members as a launchpad from which they can use their STEM skills to give back to their community, make an impact, and inspire others).
